Fannie Woodson Obituary

CHARLES CITY - On Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, God decided it was time to pluck one of the best flowers from His earthly garden. Fannie Woodson, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, peacefully crossed over into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father, in Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. Her life began on Aug. 2, 1905, the daughter of the late Susie and Napoleon Woodson.
She attended school in Charles City. In her youth, she gave her life to Christ and became a lifelong and devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Charles City, Va. She retired from Colonial Williamsburg after 27 years of dedicated service.
'Nanny,' as she was so affectionately called, was a loving and kind person. She was truly blessed by God to live a long and fruitful life of one hundred-three years. She loved to shop, especially for church hats. She loved being surrounded by her family…especially those grandkids! She touched the hearts of many through her unselfish acts of kindness. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, but we are so thankful to God for the many years He allowed us to have her in our lives.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Napoleon Woodson, and her daughter, Deaconess Lucy M. Mackey.
'Nanny's' loving and precious memories will always be cherished by her daughter, Marion G. Wallace (Ernest); her sons, Robert L. Graham Sr. and George L. Graham Sr. (Helen); her 13 grandchildren; her devoted great-granddaughter, Kenisha Jefferson, and a host of other great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Lee Woodson; her devoted friends, Sarah Westella and Beatrice Armistead; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and many loving and caring friends.
A funeral service, celebrating the life she lived, will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, in Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. George K. Magazine officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble by noon Saturday at 13710 Wilcox Neck Road. Ms. Woodson may be viewed only in the church on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. until the hour of her service.
Professional services entrusted to the staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, Williamsburg, 757-229-3011. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Ms. Marion & Family
I'll always remember and cherish the memories I have of "Nanny". Whenever I came to your house she was always busy doing something with or for those grandchildren of hers. My fondest memory of her is of her giving so much of herself to anyone. Nanny was always very kind and friendly to me and treated me as part of the family. Her love she shared so unselfishly. My God, how fortunate you all were to have her love and nuturing for (103) years. God is so Awesome. Keep holding on to his hands for God has promised to never leave nor forsake us.
