William Carey Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - William Preston Carey passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sept. 23, 2008 in his home.
The eldest child of the late Hattie May and William L. Carey, he was born in Gloucester, Va., on Aug. 27, 1938.
Bill attended elementary school at Gloucester Training School and graduated from Thomas C. Walker High School in Gloucester as Salutatorian and Senior Class Vice President. He then attended Hampton University and Virginia Union University in Richmond, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Education in 1963.
Bill was a dedicated husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He enjoyed his work as a Quality Assurance Supervisor at the Williamsburg Brewery of Anheuser Busch, Inc., his employer for 27 years. Bill loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and boater. He was a 35 year member of the L & L Hunt Club (formerly the Longhorn Hunt Club).
Treasuring his memory are his wife, Loraine Blount Carey; his daughter, Kimberly Carey Williams (Gregory) of Waldorf, Md.; his son, Brian Stewart Carey of Minneapolis, Minn.; his sister, Brenda C. Blount (Marcus) of Hampton; one sister-in-law, Yvonne B. Carter (Guy) of Gaithersburg, Md.; two nephews, Marcus Wade Blount of Smithfield and Lawrence Q. Marshall (Amy) of Cary, N.C.; and one grandchild, Maya L. Williams.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at The First United Baptist Church, Gloucester, Va. Viewing will be on Monday in the church beginning at 10 a.m. until the hour of service. To the Carey family: Bear in mind that this separation and loss is only temporary. At some time in the future we will all meet and be together again. Bill and I were classmates and he was one of the people that made my stay in Harkness Hall at Hampton Inst.a fond memory. My sincere condolences to Lorraine and the rest of the family.
