Elsie Phelps Obituary
Elsie retired in 1970 as the Cafeteria Manager at Hampton High School. She worked there over 15 years. She was a member of Pine Chapel Baptist Church and the TEL Sunday School Class and the Emera Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Newport News.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Worth Phelps, whom she married in 1931. Surviving are her son, W. Roger Phelps Sr. and his wife, Arvis of Hampton; grandchildren, William R. Phelps Jr. and his wife, Elaine, and Deborah P. Sawyer and her husband, Mike; and great-grandchildren, Emily Phelps, Jennifer Phelps, Mary Phelps, Mike Sawyer Jr., Michelle Sawyer and Melissa Sawyer.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton. Elsie's life will be celebrated 1 p.m. Friday at Pine Chapel Baptist Church by the Revs. Mark Reon and Frank Earwood. Interment will follow in Parklawn.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Commonwealth Assisted Living in Hampton for all their love and support over the last two years.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of your, Elsie was a true blessing to all the staff at Commonwealth Assisted Living. She will always have a place in our hearts and fond memories of her enjoying the Commonwealth Pies. It was a true blessing from God to unity your family with all the Commonwealth Assisted Living family.
