Susie Reavis Obituary

MINEOLA, N.Y. - Susie Ann Reavis was born on Aug. 27, 1946, in Newport News, Va., to the late Eugene and Baylease Gillis Reavis. She entered eternal rest and peace on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Winthrop University Hospital, Mineola, N.Y.
Susie was educated in the public schools of Newport News, Va. Upon graduation from Huntington High School, she entered Virginia State College (now Virginia State University) in Petersburg, Va., graduating in 1969.
Susie migrated to New York and accepted a position with Allstate Insurance Company. At the time of her retirement in 2004, her title was Division Human Resource Manager.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Baylease Reavis, niece, Paula Eugenia Powell and brother-in-law, John L. Bethea.
Susie leaves to treasure her memories, three sisters, Pauline Bethea of Charlotte, N.C.; Gertrude (James M.) Powell, Hampton, Va., and Elsie Reavis of Hempstead, N.Y.; brother, Thomas Foster of Newport News, Va.; one aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Gillis of Roanoke, Va.; and one uncle, the Rev. C.H. Brown Jr. of Somerset, N.J.; surrogate parents, Andrew and Adrene Wills of North Babylon, N.Y. and Marie Saunders of Hampton, Va.; three nephews, two nieces and five great-nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
Viewing will be held today from 3 to 6 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel 1601-27th Street Newport News, VA 23607, (757) 380-0251. A homegoing celebration will be held 11a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at First Baptist Church East End with Dr. William James Marshall, pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
