Daniel Witte Obituary

WITTE, DANIEL PAUL, Danny was born in Chicago Illinois on April 8, 1988, and passed away at age 19 on January 1, 2008, on the Virgin River in the northwest corner of Arizona. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Dr. Paul Kramer of Houston. He is survived by his grandmother, Doris J. Kramer of Dallas, his parents, Anton H. & Cathleen K. Witte of Dallas, his brother, Patrick Hardin Witte of Dallas, his aunt, Christina Billings and cousin Stephanie Billings of College Station and his nanny, Guadalupe Melendez of Dallas. He is also survived by his step family, Cindy and Mark Whalen and sons Philip and Stephen of Baldwinsville, NY, Tracy and Jim Fuller and sons Joshua and Joseph of York, PA, and Trey and Stacy Witte and sons Tory, Christian and JC Romadell of Mint Hill, NC. Danny adored his long time girlfriend Katy Billups, currently a student at the University of Kansas. He loved music and was an accomplished keyboardist, and also played several guitars and the harmonica. He was a member of Troop 802 in Dallas for several years and was awarded his Eagle Scout Badge with two palms in November of 2004. He was a leader of incredible strength and honor. Danny had a great love for the martial arts and had been a member and instructor for over six years at the Wujido Institute. Under the direction of Master James Harkin he had attained a second degree brown belt in Shaolin Kung Fu and a white sash in Wu Chi Chuan. Most recently, he was in his second year at Southern Methodist University where he was studying philosophy and psychology toward his long term ambition to be a university professor. Danny, at a young age, was very aware of the important things in life and never let material things confuse that. He taught us the true meaning of unconditional love. He was an honest, independent thinker and was extremely loyal to his friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm Sunday, January 6, at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 10 am Monday, January 7, at Christ the King Catholic Church at 8017 Preston Rd, in Dallas with the Reverend Monsignor Zimmerman officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Danny's memory be sent to the site of his Eagle project, the Notre Dame School (for children with mental disabilities), 2018 Allen St., Dallas TX 75204, Attn. I was so sad when I heard about your son and his friend. He reminds me so much of my own son who goes to Highland Park. Your son was a beautiful gift, and I truly believe that some gifts are too precious to stay here for very long because the house of God needs them. I pray that you receive peace, and know we are praying for your family.

Instructor Dan, you will be sorely missed. I loved watching you at Wujido; you were an inspiration to me. Your intensity, your skill, your pleasant disposition when you gave instruction, all of these things always pleased me. I'm probably one of the oldest students you ever had and I was very glad to be your student and receive instruction from you. I never imagined all the other things you had accomplished; your loss is a loss deeply felt throughout the community.
