LB was a character I will never forget. He and John Long often brought tears to my eyes from laughing so hard. His TRS80 store at Red Bird was a thing of wonder. He taught me a lot about self-employment and business.

Just got word today and was sorry to hear it. John gave me a job when I really needed one. "If I like you I'll give you a raise, if I dont I'll fire you" he says. I spent 11 years working for, learning from and laughing with John and I really miss those days. Goodbye John.

I first meet Light Brown when he owned a motorcycle shop in east Dallas. Always a story and always a joke. Those where good times. I was in his office at the motorcycle parts manufacturing business he owned one day when he was telling me that you could see light through his new handle bars he makes. He then handed me a pair and said look for yourself. Well, the handle bars where filled with water and when you held them up all of the water came out all over me and my suit and tie. He loved a pratical joke. A short time later we went to St. Louis for AMA motocross event where he was the Ref. and what fun it was to watch the professional way he ran the race. I learn a lot just being around Light Brown. He will be missed by all of us.

" Charlott/Chocolate" You and John were wonderful to me. I can truly say the best couple I have ever worked for. I'm still involved today with off road racing. I attribute my ongoing involment through the years, to Lightbrown's passion and vision for the sport of Motocross. Lightbrown was and will always be a shining star to me. Charlott thank you for our friendship and your unconditional support and love for John for the past 30 years.

I love you granddad, you will always have a big part of my heart. I never told you that i wanted to follow in your footsteps, and join the navy. However, now you are able to watch over me as i follow. You were a funny, kind-hearted human being, and i will never forget all your jokes. As well as the animal noises you were so good at making. I will miss you.

Sorry for your loss!. He was one of the true legends of the early years of MX in the 70's. As a teenager and big fan at that time I enjoyed reading about him and the sport. He was very well liked and respected. May he rest in piece

I've been trying for days to cut this down to five hundred pages or less. But, in the end, there are no words worthy of tribute to LB. I met him one day in about 1967 when he brought a Mooney he was flying to my shop for repairs and the fun began. Our lives crossed many times over all the years since then. Light Brown had a way of making every one of those intersections hilarious and interesting. For him every night was a Saturday night and every day a Fun-day. He will be missed. My thoughts are with his great family and all of his friends. Farewell old pal.

My Sincere Condolances to The Family and Friends.

I haven't seen "Light Brown", in Decades and was Looking forward to seeing him next month at The Pete Dalio and Jack Wilson Reunion.

I knew Light Brown (never knew His real name until just now) before he became the First AMA National Moto Cross Referee in 1972. I was a Novice (Flat Track) AMA Pro in 1972, and Light Brown was the AMA Referee. I even mentioned Light Brown in one of My early Flat Track Stories called "The Protest Story: The Will Rule"
In That Story, I said Light Brown was the Fairest referee there ever was. I said He treated a First Year Novice just like a Multi Time National Number, and He did.

It was indeed an Honor and Pleasure to have Known Light Brown. He Made Our World A Better Place.

GOD SPEED "LIGHT BROWN"

Light Brown We will not need our Medical Cards at The Great Race Track in The Sky.

REST IN PEACE.

I met John at Clone and industy events. An awesome person and colleague who became a friend. Turns out we had motocross in common too. Stopping by the shop and talking about the good old pioneering motocross days are something I'll remember forever. I'll miss those conversations and spending quality time with John the most. Not to mention the funniest emails on the planet he would always find and forward.

I remember one day at Clone, I walked in and you were sitting at your desk working as usual, but with no shirt on. I said "Hello, where's your shirt?" and you said "What Shirt?" and went on working. That is one picture I will never forget..my brother sitting at his desk no shirt on in front of the window working as if nothing was wrong. I was left to draw my on conclusions. I learned later that it having gotten wet, the shirt was being blown dry in the back. It was so like you. You took on all obsticles, one at a time never backing down. I will miss you big brother. I love you.

Oh John, It's so hard to believe you are no longer "just around the corner". When I first met you, I remember thinking that there are very few times when, right off, you know that this person will be a lifelong friend. I knew that to be true that first day I walked into Clone. It was the start of a wonderful friendship, the likes of which may never come again. My life would have been poor had I had not known you. Peace.

Dear Charlott, my thoughts are with you. Keep the faith, and stay in touch.....

Best always,
Redfox

I met John in 1968 riding motocross. We became the best of friends. I can still hear his voice and see the big grin he always had on his face. I always called him 'lightbrown', never John. He always called me 'JJ',never Joe. He was always a hoot to be around and I have many fond memories of him at the races in the old days. He was a really fast rider too, always in the front of the pack.I will forever fondly remember his infectious laugh and big curly afro.

Light Brown, we did it right back in the day. I enjoyed spending weekends with you crisscrossing the country in the old Inter-Am motocross series. You and Weinert and Gaylon and Tony D. and Gerrit, and all the guys made it great fun. God bless you, old friend, and thanks for the memories.

Oh, Big Brother!! I will never forget all of the exitement the family had many many years ago...it was all around "John Nelson is coming home from Okinawa today". I remember wondering what Okinawa was and who John Nelson was! I knew I had another big brother, but you were already in the Marines when I was little (Stuart Little). There was so much going on downstairs with everyone awaiting your arrival,I went upstairs and waited on the balcony, looking thru the iron railing. A yellow taxi stopped at the bottom of the driveway and then I saw your white Marine Corp hat. As you got closer to the gate, I saw you in full uniform and you were bigger than life, and I remember being so proud and lucky that you were MY big brother, and still am. Tell Mom, Dad, Dar and yes, even Don (wonder if he has new boots), I miss them all terribly. XOXOXOXO,
Your baby sister
