My heart goes out to your entire family. I was so sadden to hear of such a great loss. I had the pleasure of meeting Maria her senior year at my home. My son's friend met her at CTC and brought her over to our house. Maria and I hit it off immediately and chatted for a couple hours. She was such a special lady with certain success in her future. May your memories bring you comfort. How blessed I am to have had the opportunity to meet such a beautiful person.

To the families of Lance Cpl. Maria Laurterbach and Gabriel Joseph:

Although like so many others, I did not know Maria, nevertheless, my heart aches for each of you for all that you were forced to endure, to such an unhappy ending.

Your daughter was a beautiful woman too young in life to lose it as she did, and how. It is heartbreaking for everyone who knew her, and to those who never had the pleasure.

May God grant you some comfort, once your grieving has softened, so that you will be able to enjoy the memories you were left to share.

There are no words adequate enough to soften all that you are forced to endure, but if love and caring will be of some help to each of you. knowing how many of us care.

We offer prayers to help each of you through this very sad and difficult time, and please know how many of us care and share your sorrow.

God Bless!

May the God of Creation, the Author of all that is good, give you peace in this dark hour. My wife and I were passing by the church on our way to visit our son this morning when were struck by sadness and felt compelled to find out if my suspicions were correct.
We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support to your family and pray that each day will be brighter with memories of your beloved daughter and her child. Your daughter has touched us, a stranger we did not know. May God bless you and your family and grant you rest.

I am deeply sadned by your loss. I did not have the great honor of knowing Maria, but I am praying for Maria and her baby everday, and my heart aches for both of them. I am also praying for justice to be served for the two of them quickly. I know there are no words that can make the pain go away, but I read this poem for the first time at a family members funeral and I love the message it sends, so I hope that it gives you peace.

IF TEARS COULD BUILD A STAIRWAY,
AND MEMORIES A LANE.
I WOULD WALK RIGHT UP TO HEAVEN,
TO BRING YOU HOME AGAIN.

NO FAREWELL WORDS WERE SPOKEN,
NO TIME TO SAY GOODBYE,
YOU WERE GONE BEFORE WE KNEW IT,
AND ONLY GOD KNOWS WHY.

OUR HEARTS STILL ACHE WITH SADNESS,
AND SECRET TEARS STILL FLOW.
WHAT IT MEANT TO LOSE YOU,
NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW.

BUT NOW WE KNOW YOU WANT US
TO MOURN FOR YOU NO MORE.
TO REMEMBER ALL THE HAPPY TIMES,
LIFE STILL HAS MUCH IN STORE.

SINCE YOU'LL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN
WE PLEDGE TO YOU TODAY,
A HALLOWED PLACE WITHIN OUR HEARTS
IS WHERE YOU'LL ALWAYS STAY.

I hope your family can find peace in God during your time of grief.

Stepping Stones
The Lord came to me in a dream one day and asked,"why do you sorrow?" I answered "Lord my life is so full of pain, I can't face one more tomorrow."

The Lord sat down beside me, and gently took my hand.
He said,
"Let me explain to you and then you'll understand.
Each sorrow is a stepping stone you must surmount each day,
And every stepping stone you climb is a sorrow that's passed away.

The road of life is a mountainside, with crevices in which to be caught,
But as you struggle on your way, I, the Rock ,will lend support.
Everystepping stone you climb makes spirit and heart grow strong.
Exercising Character and faith this road seems painful and long.

The way is paved with stepping stones to uplift your heart and soul,
Though difficult they aid your way, to a City paved with gold.
I know that you are tired, for I too have walked this way,
My sorrows did they multiply, but I cleared the stones away.

I left my rock to lift you up,I left behind my story.
To give you strength to make your climb,to that special place in glory.

And never fear,The Rock is here,
You'll never climb alone.
Surmount life's sorrows,conitinue on,
For they are But stepping stones.
"Leave your troubles with the Lord, and He will help you through the hard times and days to come!John3:16

Maria you will never know how you have touched the hearts of the nation, the world. I pray you and Gabriel are happy now, safe in the Lord's house. You have touched me in ways unimaginable, and I pray justice is served. You were far to young to be taken away, but I understand God had another purpose for you. May you and your entire family be at peace.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

They are in the glory of God. The Marines at the purly gates are watching over them now.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Maria and Gabriel, although it has been awhile since you and I have talked, I feel a closeness to you, we never would have thought. I remember our days at CTC, and I to went into the military, came out with broken feet. Probably what hit me the most is I am expecting my first child also, and after I reconized your picture on the news, I felt so sick at my stomach. I know you and Gabriel are in a much better place, and I pray your family will know I am there with them in prayers, and in my heart Maria, I hold a special place for you and Gabriel.

January 26, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
