Mrs. Collins, Mark was my dear friend at Baylor and I am so sorry to hear of your (our) loss. He was a loyal friend and mentor and I was so proud to have run with him on the Mile Relay. My prayers are for you and his sons. I will truly miss our occasional times of reunion at Baylor, and am so glad that I got to see him briefly last spring.

Dear Margie and family, Barbara and I are so sorry that your son Mark has passed on. We pray that you be comforted knowing he's now in the most wonderful place of all, with Jesus !

Mark's celebration of his life, yesterday at St. Matthew was so uplifting as Pastor Rick told those of us who did not know Mark about what a wonderful person he was, and reminded those who knew Mark of his many special traits.

We pray God comfort you at this hard time in your lives.

Love,

Doug and Barbara

May you accept God's stength and seek His comfort in your time mourning for the loss of Mark.

Mark's character is a trubute and reflection of the family love of his upbringing. It was a pleasure to have known Mark and to have watched him run. God bless each of you.

Mark was a neighbor of ours in Burleson and I remember him and his brothers playing with us older kids in the street. Boy could he run. I helped coached a baseball team back in the late 60’s in Burleson and Mark was one of our players where I witnessed his running and playing ability a lot more. I somehow thought greatness would come to him in high school. It did, and I was able to see his Dad and Mom just beam each time he crossed the finish line at each track meet my dad and I attended in the 70’s. What great memories. Mrs. Collins, Mike and Monty, our family prayers are with you at this time.

Those of us who ran with Mark at Baylor will always remember a man who had the most graceful form and always left everything on the track. I remember a teammate of ours watching him at practice one day, comparing his running style to that of a deer. So fluid, nothing wasted, all-out effort.

This observation serves as an excellent illustration of Mark’s life. He never wasted a moment. And he was so loyal. I believe it was at the Texas Relays our senior year that Mark ran so hard anchoring the mile relay he passed out down the homestretch and swallowed his tongue. Afterward he said that he didn’t want to let his teammates down.

Mark, now you’ve crossed the last finish line of your brilliant career. And you didn’t let your teammates down.

Mark was a special freind and inspiration during our time together at Baylor. He was one of the greatest talents in track and field that this nation has ever produced. To watch him run was a real sight to see.

True it was a joy to watch Mark run. But what a wonderful person off the track too. I remember Mark to be such a sweet and thoughtful person. I am sad to hear of his passing and pray for peace for his family.

Although I am only 11 years older than Mark, I was his father-in-law for a few years in the late 80's and early 90's. I was shocked to learn of his early demise. I never met a finer or more talented young man. He never told me no whenever I needed help. He provided loving guidance and support to both his sons. I admired his devotion to his family. I will miss him.

My thoughts and prayers are with Margie and his family. Watching him run was a true gift from God. May God bless you with peace and comfort during this time. He was so much fun to be around, he was a cutup in class or practice and could really make you laugh. Watching him run was a true gift from God unless you were running against him.
