Interment: 4 p.m. Tuesday at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood with the Rev. Gary Turner officiating. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Arlington Funeral Home, 1221 East Division St., Arlington.

Memorials: Memorial gifts may be directed to First United Methodist Church of Arlington, 313 North Center, Arlington 76011; or Church Growth and Development, Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 99087, Fort Worth 76199-0087.
Betty was born Jan. 16, 1931, in Fort Worth to the late Dr. Frank L. and Ruth Howard Turner. She married the Rev. James E. Shuler, her husband of 40 years, on Sept. 6, 1949. After their marriage, she graduated from Texas Wesleyan University with a B.A. in English and a minor in Spanish. In addition to their college studies, Betty and James served multiple small churches in the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. She relished her role as a minister’s wife and served beside her husband with great love, grace and dedication to their congregations.
Betty also distinguished herself as a public school teacher and served over 20 years as an English teacher. She thoroughly enjoyed the complexities of grammar and had a gift for relating that knowledge to her students.
Aside from those responsibilities, Betty’s greatest joy was being a mother to her three children and beloved "BJ/JJ" to her six grandchildren. She was their biggest cheerleader, and her love never failed them.
After retiring from teaching, Betty worked as a volunteer for the Harris Hospital Auxiliary in Fort Worth. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Arlington, where she was active in the Adult Bible Class, the choir and Disciple Bible Study.
We will miss her quick smile, her determination and her boundless sense of humor. We praise God for her beautiful life, and her love lives on through those whose lives she touched.
We would like to thank the staff of Angelic Place for their loving care of our mother.
Survivors: Sons, Les Shuler and wife, Lanae, Jay Shuler and wife, Betsy; daughter, Gina Paige and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Stephanie Shuler, Matthew Shuler, J.P. Shuler, Quinn Shuler, James Paige and Scott Paige; sisters-in-law, Blanche Turner Hext and Linda Lay Shuler; brother-in-law, Dr. Phil Shuler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Les, Jay and Gina, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family members. You had such wonderful parents and you were a beautiful and blessed family.
Today (08/29/08) would have been our 50th wedding anniversary had Bud lived. He'll be gone 20 years Oct 3. Bud and your Dad were close and I'm sure that your Dad offered him guidance and support. Your Dad and Mom are together again in a better place.
Sincerely, Judy Remynse

Les, Jay, and Gina,
James and Betty were such supportive friends to Mom and Dad as well as us. I especially appreciate Betty's efforts on my behalf at Worley Middle School. I have been happily employed there for 15 years as a direct result of her efforts...no surprise to anyone who knew her well! God bless you during these difficult days.

Mrs. Shuler was my English teacher at Abbott High School. She was superb, and made every effort to prepare us for college English classes as well as teach us life long lessons. I am ever grateful for her instruction. It served me well in college and in life.

Gina, Jeff and boys - There are simply no words to express my sorrow over the loss of your mother and my sweet friend. The memories I have of Betty go from sweet to funny to just warm and fuzzy. She was such a love and gave so completely to all who knew her. I can still see her at the cabin walking down the rock pathway to the mailbox in those little strappy, very femine, high heeled shoes - I could barely walk on that walkway in my tennis shoes! Betty was so beautiful on the outside but so incredibly beautiful on the inside! I loved her, as did so many others. God bless you all - our prayers and thoughts are with you

Les & Gina & families -
I share your grief in the loss of your sweet mother Betty. She & James were special people. My family were members of his church in Cleburne, where I graduated in 1967, and James married me to Walt Zschirnt in 1971. He officiated at my dad's funeral (E H Felts) and I attended James' funeral service at 1st church in FW. My mom Gay Felts passed in 1996. I know God will wrap his arms around your family in this time of need.
