Mr. Hubert Walker Sullins, of Griffin, Ga., passed away Monday, April 8, 2013 at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin.
Mr. Sullins was born May 6, 1924, in Experiment, Ga. He was the son of the late Emma Walker and Dee Granville Sullins. He graduated in 1941 from Griffin High School where he served as senior class president. After a year and a half of college at Georgia Tech, at the age of 18, he volunteered for service in the US Army Air Corps, where he served as navigator with a B-24 bomber crew in the 466th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force. After successfully completing 35 combat missions, he returned to Georgia Tech to complete his education, graduating with a degree in Industrial Management. On June 12, 1948, he married Eva Adams Heath with whom he enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. Shortly after their marriage he once again answered the call to serve his country, serving as a navigator in the 301st Air Refueling Wing of the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and the Cold War. After two years of additional service, he returned to his home town of Griffin to begin his 43 years of employment at Dundee Mills. He also continued service in the Air Force Reserve where he retired with the rank of Major. Mr. Sullins was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Griffin serving for many years as an elder. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Griffin for over 47 years where he served as Club President in 1976. During his life in the community of Griffin he also volunteered his time, efforts and resources to numerous civic and benevolent activities. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. With his unconditional love, kindness, generosity, loyalty, commitment to family, community and country, he was definitely a member of "The Greatest Generation."

Sullins family, We are sorry for the loss of Hubert. He brought smiles and interesting conversations for us 'new' folks in the church. Remembering the before church service coffee chats. Hubert was a grand person. I thank God for having him in our lives for a short time. May the memories be kept close to heart where Hubert will remain. Peace and comfort to all.

I can remember growing up just around the corner. Robert, Terri Lea, Jim, Stuart, Michelle, Alan, Patti and I (and many others) had such a wonderful childhood in and around the Springer Drive and Brookwood Terrace creeks. Hubert and Eva, my parents and the others will never know how much we appreciate the great experiences of a large neighborhood family. Mr. Sullins was the best looking and most patient of them all. I never saw him "fed up" with our adventures! And as an adult growing up in Griffin, it was that generation of parents that taught us the "southern traditions" of hard work and kindness as well as being a good parent. He was just that!! Mr. Sullins will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Anne, Beth, Hugh, and Robert. What a wonderful couple your mom and Dad were. My daddy always said Hubert Sullins was his best friend. I rejoice that once again they are together. Please let us know if we can do anything for you. Our love. Lyn and Victor Parker and all the Parker kids and grandkids.

Hello this is the former Liz Wallace, Howard's oldest daughter, writing from my home in Kodiak, Alaska. Hubert will be missed and he was always so supportive of my military career, especially in the Reserves. I hope it is not too tacky to remember he sent Eve to a real expensive quit smoking class and then caught her in the bathroom with a cigaretter. Lord have mercy. God bless all the Sullins and prayers to you during this time.
