Norma Jean Jones, age 87, who lived at Parkside Apartments in North East, died on July 22, 2016 at St. Mary's East Nursing Home. She was born Norma Nadine Golden on August 4, 1928 in Byars, Oklahoma, the daughter of Benjamin Golden and Maude Poole Golden.
Norma graduated from Polytechnic High School in Riverside, California and worked for many years as an Executive Assistant at the University of California at Riverside. She and her husband of 37 years, Laurence Jones, were early members of the Sacramento Jazz Society and were active in working the annual Sacramento Jazz Festival. They were also avid square dancers. Norma also enjoyed collecting, playing cards, bowling and boating.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Laurence V. Jones, her brothers Kenneth Golden and William Golden, and a son-in-law Joseph Luke.
She is survived by her children, David R. Thomas (Judy) of Garnerville, Nevada, Patti L. Luke of North East, and Anthony R. Thomas of Rapid City, South Dakota, 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A private burial will take place at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East Memorials can be made to Community Nurses of North East and Parkside Retirement Community.
