I've just recently found out about Don's passing. I'm so sorry for your loss. Don was truly a one-of-a-kind individual. He was a delight to know and I very much enjoyed working with him. Best wishes to you and yours, our prayers (however belated) are with you.

Jim & I cherish the times we shared over the years with Don, Dot, and family in both Ft Wayne (Sevier's, NWTA, & 2NC) and later in southern Ohio. Regretfully, we got together too seldom while you lived in Lebanon. It was fitting somehow that we learned of Don's passing through a mutual friend at "Friendship" several weeks after the fact. Would love to reconnect with Dorothy.

I met Don at a convention (possibly in South Bend) when I was doing a lot of roleplaying in my teens in the late 70s/early 80s. He was an interesting guy - very personable, took me seriously, and, in fact, sold me his mounted map of the Traveller Imperium and neighboring extents, back when that map was really new - I had never seen it before, and was a bit drooly over it. I displayed it prominently for many years after that. Now, after living here in Fort Wayne for almost five years, I've only just come across word of his death, and I wish I'd been able to connect with him again before his passing.

Dear Dorothy and Family,
I enjoyed working with Don at Airborne and missed him after he left. We enjoyed the times he was able to have lunch with us.
And I will definitely think of Don every time I get out the "Old Stone Fort" or see one of the CAF planes or see something out of the blue that will remind me of him.
Don was one of a kind and will certainly be missed. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Ann and I were so very sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. Though time has gone by, we still keep all of the fond memories from all the great times we shared at reenactments. It seems like a "long time ago and in a galaxy far away" that I had the fortune to meet Don and his family- I always enjoyed his humor and company - he was one of the best.

Donald's book Old Stone Fort was one of the first gaming books I ever bought and played. I enjoyed it immensely, thanks Donald! I wish his family all the best in their time of grief.

Don was a creative guy and He was interesting to game with. I had the good fortune of gaming Traveller with him in the very early stages of my own gaming life back in 1979.
I can still hear him saying to me as His character put a laser pistol behind my ear: "Whatever you're going to say,make it good...They're your last words". He didn't shoot me though,He was just that kinda guy!

My heart is with the entire Rapp family, in this surreal and difficult time. As a young former Sandridger who ran for NWTA commander, Don was a tremendous support, even in my defeat. I have great memories of him from those NWTA days, and like the memories of my own father, I will cherish these memories always. I suspect the MajorbyGod and my Dad are enjoying great stories together now.(Tiffy)

Lots of memories of lots of laughing, telling tales around the campfire and trying to keep our boys in check while at reenactments. May memories such as these sustain you all. My love to you, Dorothy and family.

I am so glad that Don made it back for pentacon last year. It was great to see him one last time before he moved on to pave the way for the rest of us to follow.

My favorite story about The Major By God occurred at the Feast in about 1980 or '81. We were new to the North West Territory Alliance at the time and it was probably our first or second time at the Feast Of The Hunters' Moon. We had vacationed in the east about a year earlier and had purchased a 24-pound cannon ball as a souvenir. I took the ball to the feast, rolled it around in the Wabash river, and was carrying it back to camp when I encountered Don. He asked about the ball, I told him what I had done, and said I now had a "Wabashed Cannon Ball." Don stopped in his tracks, backed up about six feet, then took a wide track around the likes of me!

Of all the People that have been in my life, I credit Donald Rapp at the top of my list as a Honorable Friend and a mentor. He helped me to learn how precious Life is and how we must Enjoy, Share and Embrace it and those we Love and Respect. Don you will be missed and thought of often. My brother and I hold the entire Rapp tightly in our thoughts and our prayers. I grew up with Don as a pillar of my extended family and will deeply miss him as will all of the young people who grew up with him as an adopted father or uncle.
I send my condolences from the entire 42nd Royal Highland Regiment (NWTA). We know that you are now happily sitting around that great camp fire with all those we love who have gone before.

So sorry to read of Don's passing. He was a marvelous fellow and I enjoyed being around him and sharing some of his passions. I can still see him at the Old Fort in my mind's eye. He was a fine friend for many years.

I will always remember the silly stuff that we did as reenactors. For example, the time The Major was forced to capitulate to a then-drum corporal of the 42nd Royal Highlanders at the First Annual Battle of Castleton at Hillsdale Nursery during the Rose Festival in 1981.
Our thoughts are with all the Rapp family in their time of suffering.
