LIONEL SAVADOVE Obituary

SAVADOVE LIONEL Passed away on March 2, 2021. Husband of Patricia, father of Lorin (Lin) and Lane (Melanie), grandfather of Kai, Kou, Emmeline. Shiva will be observed via Zoom Saturday, March 6, 6 -8 P.M. An outdoor memorial gathering will be held Sunday, March 7, 12-2 P.M. Please contact the family for information. Lionel grew up in the Logan area of Philadelphia. His father ran a hardware store but lost everything in the Depression becoming a traveling salesman. He was inseparable from his childhood best friend, also named Lionel (Schlank). They played stickball in the alleys of Logan and became Eagles season ticket holders together in 1948. They would remain friends, sitting together at the Eagles games for the rest of their lives, which included seeing the 1948 and 1960 championship games. Lionel went to Central High, a highlight of his life, then to Wharton finishing first in his class. Following his Army service, he attended Harvard Law. He became a tax attorney for Wisler Pearlstine where he had the pleasure of representing his very own Eagles, overseeing the purchase by Leonard Tose. He finished his career as an executive for Fashion Bug helping it to become a major national chain. He met Pat, a therapeutic masseuse, in 1973, and fell instantly in love. The family moved into her rustic Pipersville cabin in the woods, which she built herself. In 1983, the family moved to New Hope and settled into his dream house, a renovated stone barn from 1800. In his retirement he traveled the world: Borneo, Ivory Coast, Antarctica…his house growing into a museum of his travels. Lionel was a music, opera, and theater fanatic. He traveled to New York or Philly most days of the week to attend performances. He served on arts boards, including Orchestra 2001, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, and until his death, Lane's company, EgoPo Classic Theater. Lionel worked long hours throughout his life, but he always got dinner on the table and found time to coach Lorin's Little League team and make it to Lane's openings. His love was immense: for music, food, the Eagles, but most of all, for his friends and family, especially his beloved Pat. The imprint he has left on the world is massive. Lionel had a heart the size of the sun and the energy to go along with it. It is now his time to rest. www.goldsteinsfuneral.com

Lionel was my first cousin and a good friend. A bight, knowlegeable man and it was a pleasure to be in his company

I had the pleasure of working with Lionel when I arrived at Charming Shoppes in 1980. Most of our contact was when we worked on the company's annual report. Lionel always had an interesting perspective on things which I found refreshing. I can still picture him arriving at work with not one, but two briefcases. I would always joke with him about that. My condolences to his family. May his memory be an inspiration to others and may he rest in eternal peace.
