
Alyce Mays Barnes, 77, passed to her eternal home Sunday, April 19, 2015, surrounded by her loving family after almost four years of fighting cancer. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Mount Olivet Chapel, with longtime family friend and minister David Rogers officiating. Interment: 3 p.m. Thursday in Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Olivet. Pallbearers: Cory Barnes, Brennan Barnes, Travis Maclin II, Travis Maclin III, Andrew Loveland and Billy Futrell. Honorary pallbearers, Shawn McKinnon and Shelley Loveland. Gentle, kind, strong, courageous and Christ-centered are all words to describe Alyce. Her younger grandchildren were quick to note that Grandma would be happy praising Jesus in heaven on the Sunday morning after being too sick to attend worship services for the past months. Alyce was born March 13, 1938, to Leon and Minnie Mays in Fort Worth. She was raised in Fort Worth and graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1956. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roark Barnes; son, Jerrell Barnes; her parents; grandson, Andrew Knowles; brother, Tommy Mays; and sister, Patricia Justice. The family would like to thank Alyce's caregiver, Twilla Vitt, and her hospice team from Vitas Hospice. Survivors: Daughter, Kathy Knowles and husband, Billy; daughter, Leslie McKinnon and husband, Shawn; daughter-in-law, Jerris Barnes; and grandchildren, Shelley Loveland and husband, Andrew, Brennan Barnes, Cory Barnes, Connor McKinnon and Claire McKinnon.
