Mike was one of my best friends during our late teens and early twenties. We had so many great times together. Even though he was always troubled he remained a kind and generous friend with an amazing sense of humour. Over the years we lost touch as our lives went separate ways. This past August I randomly thought about Mike again and looked him up, that is when I discovered everything he was going through. We had a long phone conversation and caught up on each other's lives and shared a few laughs and tears. The last few months we have remained connected through emails. I am shocked that he is really gone. I will sincerely miss my friend. Rest In Peace Mike. I will visit your rock and your tree.

I followed Mike on Twitter not long ago and was amazed with his courage and vulnerability at the same time. Mike, you have invited us into your life through social media. I've learned so much from you (you are laughing at this). I learned how to deal with things and people specially those who try to push us down. Rest In Peace Mike... you made a difference. You will be remembered...

I stumbled upon Mike's twitter page and have been addicted ever since.
When I read of his passing my husband offered his condolences to me for losing a friend! That is the legacy of Mike. Hopefully he was aware of how many people he touched and who were honored to be part of his twitter family.

I don't remember how I came across Mike's tweets a few months ago. Once I began to read them, I quickly became hooked! Mike posted a heart to my recent comment that my prayers for him were continuing. That connection meant something, and I do hope he recognized my sincerity. I truly believe that the courageous and often humorous Mike Sloan is now at peace. May his legacy live on.

Dearest Mike, I will miss your wry wit, your wisdom, your soft advice, your tolerance, your keen observations about life and your courage and humour in the face of pain and a life cut way too short. You continue to be an inspiration to thousands and your legacy will live on. The world feels empty without you.

I will miss our online Twitter banter and our private DM's about cancer and losing my best friend at 51 to glioblastoma in Dec 2017. Mike was a great guy that is gone too soon. His humour and candor will be missed. He died on his terms, with dignity and grace. We will remember how he touched our hearts with his openness and honesty. May his soul rest in peace. xo

Mike, you made a difference in my life. You filled in gaps for me because my late husband who passed away from cancer 7 years ago, wouldn't share his journey and let me in. He kept most of his thoughts, frustrations to himself, hoping to spare me. You helped me get closure. You helped me with your humour and brutal honesty in your tweets.
Your twitter friend of two months. All the best on your next journey. I'm not able to travel to attend your funeral but will have you in my thoughts tomorrow, January 23rd, coincidently my late husbands birthday.
Sincerely, Sue

Mike, you will not be forgotten.
And yes, that quote from Plato still feels apt for you:
"The souls of people, on their way to Earth-life, pass through a room full of lights; each takes a taper - often only a spark - to guide it in the dim country of this world. But some souls, by rare fortune, are detained longer - have time to grasp a handful of tapers, which they weave into a torch.
"These are the torch-bearers of humanity - its poets, seers and saints, who lead and lift the race out of darkness, toward the light. They are the law-givers and saviors, the light-bringers, way-showers and truth-tellers, and without them, humanity would lose its way in the dark."
You shone a lot of light, Mike. Thank you for doing so.
Scott
