GARVEY, MARY PATRICIA "PAT," 84, of Louisville, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 15, 2012.
Pat was born March 13, 1928 in Louisville to Martin and Mary Mattingly.
She was a lifetime member of Holy Spirit Church in St. Matthews. She graduated from St. Catharine's College in Springfield, KY, and received her degree in dietetics from Spalding University. She worked as a dietitian at the V.A. Hospital for 26 years, where she retired. After retiring she volunteered at the Center for the Arts and Actors Theatre. She was past president of the Louisville Bar Auxiliary and member of The Friendship Force and the "The Garvey Girls." Pat will forever be remembered for her zest for life and the love of exploring the world and wonders it had to offer. From the pyramids of Egypt to the Great Wall of China, she was a world traveler who never passed up an adventure. She shared her passion for traveling with her children, grandchildren and friends though trips, pictures and stories.
Pat was a strong, positive, exciting woman who never met a stranger. She was an amazing and loving mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. An inspiration to us all, she will be missed and remembered well by all those who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas O. Garvey; her parents, Martin and Mary Mattingly; and her brother, Edward Mattingly.
She is survived by her six sons, Kevin (Janet), Brian, Brett (Tammy), Wayne (Anne), Glenn (Claudia) and Mark (Melanie); her 13 grandchildren, Kimberly, Jennifer, Kristina, Jason, Patrick, Ryan, Patricia, Sean, Matthew, John, Andrew, Hallie Jane and Zachary; five great-grandchildren, Logan, Landon, Liam, Cooper and Griffin; along with many other relatives.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road.
