MARTIN, DONALD
Donald 'Don' Martin, of Interlachen, Florida, peacefully entered into the presence of God and his final rest on 29 November, 2016, due to significant health issues since 2010. He was fully ready to meet his Lord and Savior because of his personal decision to follow Christ and was baptized in 1943. He belonged to the Church of Christ. His commitment to and love for Christ was evident in many ways. He would always set an extra plate at the table for the Lord during each meal.
Don was born November 20, 1929 to Hoy and Nora Martin in Old Hickory, Tennessee and spent his early life in Hermitage, Tennessee. Later, he moved to the Nashville area and at age 16, he moved to Madison, Tennessee. He and his family had a strong and honest work ethic as they raised chickens and cows in addition to raising their own food. He left Tennessee in 1957 to live in Tampa, Florida. He later lived in Houston, Texas and finally moved to Interlachen, Florida. God blessed him in being married to his former wife for 37 years until her death in July, 2010.
Don had a deep love for Tennessee and also country music. He personally knew many famous Country Music artists. Some of these were Eddie Arnold, Hank Snow and his son, Jimmie Rodgers Snow, Hawkshaw Hawkins, 'Sleepy' McDaniels (Hank Snow's bass fiddle player), Chubby Wise (Snow's regular fiddle player), and several guitar players who appeared on the Grand Ole Opry.
Don leaves a great legacy as an example of victory through Alcoholics Anonymous. Since July 3, 1962, he has experienced sobriety without interruption. He was acquainted with one of the first 100 members of Alcoholics Anonymous. Don has been a part of this wonderful fellowship since 1962 which was established earlier by Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob. He has also been a faithful mentor to over 100 people in several states in helping them to have victory through his encouragement, influence, teaching, and personal involvement in their lives. He was an example and leader in working together to help others in and through AA. He continued to touch many people until his death.
Don is very thankful for the many people in his life that loved and helped him in many ways. These include his brothers and sisters, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is thankful for Dr. Haq, Dr. Tonner, Dr. Tully, and especially his oncologist, Dr. Cheryll Hayes. He is deeply grateful for Shirley Sweeney who has been a compassionate, faithful and loving caregiver these last days of his life. He has much gratitude for the physical, emotional, and spiritual care provided for him by Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast. In lieu of flowers, make donations to your favorite charity.
Services celebrating Don's life will be at 2:00 P.M Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Interlachen with Chaplain Jakie Carmicle officiating.

As his brother I remember those tussles we had in the front yard and the encouragement we had from our Mother and Father. During the past few years I have called Donald occasionally and we have remembered him daily in our prayers. It now seems that I should pick up the phone and call him, but I know he has gone to be with the Lord. Glenn Martin

I am so grateful to have been touched by the loving heart of Don Martin. I don't think Don ever met a stranger. He always gave graciously of his self. I will never forget his story or how he made me feel. My condolences to his family and many friends. R.I.P. Don. See you in heaven.
