Wanda Ballantyne Obituary

Wanda Lowry Ballantyne passed away unexpectedly in Memorial Hospital on Saturday, April 12. Wanda was born August 16, 1929, in Storm Lake, Iowa, were she lived until she was in 4th grade. Her parents were Clint and Merle Beers Lowry. She had a sister Nancy and brother Wendel, both living in Colorado Springs. She also had a brother Bob, who is deceased. Wanda graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee Iowa in 1947. Wanda met Paul in 7th grade and he graduated with her in 1947. Wanda attended and graduated with honors from the University of Southern California in 1951. She was selected as one of the five most outstanding graduates in 1951, having served as President of the Young Women's Christian Association, a member of Mortar Board, Quill and Scroll and other Academic and service groups. She majored in music and taught music in Delano, California, Kalona, Iowa, Natalia and LaCoste, Texas. She also taught for 15 years in School District 11 in Colorado Springs. She was wonderful private piano teacher for over 50 years. She married Paul Ballantyne on her birthday in 1953. They have 2 children Arnold (1956) and Lisa (1958). Arnold resides in White Rock, B.C. Canada with his wife Grace. Lisa is married to George Martin and they reside in Peachtree City, GA. Lisa and George have 3 children, Terri (21), Mike (18), and April (15). Wanda and Paul attended New Life Church. Wanda taught several years in Women's Ministries, she and Paul taught small groups in Fighting for Your Marriage and Searching for Significance. Wanda will long be remembered as a serving person who always reached out to help others first, without thinking of her self. She always greeted folks with her loving and lovely smile. Wanda will be greatly missed by all who knew her. But, all who knew her are celebrating because they know Wanda is rejoicing with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, April 16, at New Life Church Campus. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at 2:30 pm Fort Logan National Cemetery Staging area "B".

I haven't seen Wanda in a very long time, but she played an important role in molding me into the person I am today. I was blessed to have 11 years with her as my piano teacher, and I will never forget her. My heart goes out to her family. She was truely an amazing person.

Mrs. Ballantyne was my orchestra teacher in elementary school. She was such a wonderful teacher and always had a smile her face. I am so grateful to know she is safe in the arms of our savior Jesus. And I am also blessed that I had such a wonderful teacher!!
