Hello,
We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Justin M. Estes US Army Staff Sergeant.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Hi Diane and Family,
As Memorial Day 2014 approaches, God put Dutch on my heart today and I felt a compelling need to let you know that our family will be praying for you and thinking about Dutch's crazy antics and beautiful smile. Danny's family is having a BBQ on Monday, as so many families do, but this year we'll have a table set out for Dutch, with the photo book you sent us, Diane, along with a news article about his valor and the narrative of his Silver Star Award. It is so important that we keep him and all of our soldiers and families on our hearts throughout the year. God bless you all and the baby too!
Much love,
Stacey Grant (Captain Dan Grant's wife) - from Bamberg :)

Just a note to offer my sympathy to the family of this young man. I've read his Silver Star commendation. My son served with him over there and were friends. I once asked my son if "he cared about the political things going on about Iraq. Did it piss him off? Were the Iraqi people worth it?"...His response was that they didn't fight for "freedom, politics,Iraq,etc....they fought for each other!" The man died helping his friends ..Thank You dutch for possibly saving my son and others that day with your actions and there is surely a reward for you in heaven.I heard something interesting about a mother's love for her son lost in vietnam...after 40 years, she says her love for him has grown softer and deeper..more loving, more comforting..not bitter...so I pray that God will deliver the same to the hearts of the loved ones of ssgt estes...there is a promise unfulfilled that will be right some day.
I can't prove it but i believe it. Thank God and God have mercy on us all
forgive me if i say the wrong things..

To the family of one of the most incredible friends one could have..... On behalf of The Big Apple in Fayetteville NC., we offer you are most sincere condolences. Dutch was a constant at The Big Apple with his Rolling Rock and pool stick he fast became a close friend to many. I clearly remember when Dutch came in to show us his tattoo...a tattoo people still talk about today. The sadness we all feel with the loss of such a dear friend is great... We cherish so many memories and relive those memories through his dear friend Bobby Steals which helps us all deal with the emptiness we still feel. There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

My Dearest Justin,
I cannot believe it is nearly two months already since you were suddenly taken from us. The sorrow I still feel in my heart is as real today as that fateful day we were told you had been killed. The kind things everyone has written about you are wonderful to read, but I would give anything to have you back again. Life just isn't the same without you. Everywhere I look in the house and at work I see you and it often makes me cry. I am not just sad for myself, but for all of your friends who knew they could always count on you, at any time of day or night, to be there for them, too. Everyone who knew you really truly loved you and the world is a lesser place without your beautiful smile and a smart remark from you. You truly were always the Best of the Best, and I miss you more than you will ever know. I Love You and Miss You, Justin. Love always - Mom

Dearest Justin-
It's still hard to believe that you are gone...Those blue eyes, that contagious smile. You were the "best of the best"-a real hero. Our freedom is definitely not free, but I am so sorry that your life was part of the pricetag. You will be missed and always remembered. Thank you for your sacrifice.
And, to my dearest sister and your mother, Diane and John-
There is no greater bond as that between a mother and her child. Your loss is unimaginable. May your treasured memories of Justin live on in your heart forever and bring you some measure of comfort. Thank you for having raised such a fine young man.

Dutch:
There are no words that would express to you the amount of gratitude I am in debt to you. You were my husband, Nathan's, best friend. I could not have asked for a more loyal and reliable friend for Nathan to have. The overwhelming grief that I felt while I gathered your things to take home to your mom was all washed away when I walked into that gymnasium in your hometown. There were so many people there to honor your life it was breathtaking. Knowing that you were with Nathan during both of your deployments to Iraq was the only comfort I had during those rough times. I remember the night in Austin that you and Nathan went down to Sixth Street on your motorcycle. I was so worried about you guys getting home okay that night. But, you brought him home safe and sound, I could always count on you for that. One of the speakers at your service said something that has stuck with me, he said "no greater love exists than that of a man who lays down his life for his friends". Dutch, you showed that love to Nathan and for that and so much more, I am forever grateful. I will never forget.

Diane and Family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I pray that God will comfort your hearts.
Justin was a fine man and soldier. He believed in the freedoms of this great country and the cost to keep those freedoms. Freedoms are because of ordinary people who do extraordinary things-who loved this country more than life itself. Justin loved his family and his country and was a very brave, extraordinary young man.

Justin, all of us owe you such a great debt of gratitude--you did what so many are so afraid to do. You took a stand for your country and gave your very life for what you believed was right and just. You are truly an American Hero.
So many people have shared with your family their memories and impressions of you. It is amazing that such a young soul could have touched so many people and made such an impact on so many lives. You lived life to the fullest, and you were the best son, brother, and soldier--the Best of the Best. You will be truly missed, not only by your family, but all of us who have come to know you. We will never forget the sacrifices you and your family have made.
Diane, Kelli, and John, you are in my prayers and thoughts. Words cannot express how deeply sorry I am for your loss. May God strenghten and comfort you, and may you trust that he will answer your every prayer.
I read the following the other day and thought immediately of Justin:
A WARRIOR'S ETHOS
I am an American Soldier.
I will always place mission first.
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.
I am an American Soldier.

In the bible, John 15:13 it says: No one has greater love than this –that one lays down his life for his friends. A sacrificial love.
I have thought so much lately, this type of love is what our soldiers have, both for each other and for their country. There is honor in their duty. They believe in their training and each other. And, they love a fellow soldier so much they put fear of their own safety aside and go to one another’s aide. This is what Justin did.
Our soldiers have served us well; they are the custodians of our nation’s defense. They are brave and courageous. We are safe in their hands. Without the restraint of politics, they can accomplish any military mission. I am so proud of them, they are truly our heroes.
Diane, I am so very very sorry for your huge heartbreaking loss. You mentioned Justin coming home in a couple of weeks, then that night you got the sad news. I cannot imagine your pain but, I am praying for you. May God comfort you and your family now and in the days and months ahead.

Justin, we first met you on our trip to the states and we visited your folks in Simms, Arkansas together with my boys Jarl and Yuri, we did have a lot of fun and the 3 boys met another world, you got aqainted with Europe and we got aqainted with the American way.
Last year 2006, we met briefly at Schiphol Airport were you were transitting back home to join
another outfit of the army.
We all remember how proud you were to be of Dutch origin and to serve your country.
Wel aware of all the risks, you still were very determined to serve your country proudly.
We were following everything on a distance, but nevertheless our thougts were very often with you.
We have spoken with your grandfather and shared the grief with him and obviously with your mom and dad.
Its a small small world after all. It has been a privalage to know you!

Justin,
It's been one month to the day since they took you away from us and I still don't believe it. My boys and I went out the other night and we drank to you - they thank you for your sacrifice even though they never met you. We will all strive to be like the amazing soldier that you were. Here's to sitting on the curb outside while doing laundry, singing to Lynyrd Skynyrd in the parking lot, and tickle fights. I miss you baby - until we meet again.

Diane,
I don't know if you got the e-mail I sent to you shortly after hearing of Justin's death or not. Just in case you didn't, please know that you and your family are in our prayers and thoughts. I realize there is really nothing that can be said to take your pain away, even though I wish I could. If there is ever anything I can do for you, let me know. Sometimes a good cry or an ear to listen helps. I am so thankful for all of our troops who are serving our country with freedom that is very costly. I am so sorry for your loss, and pray that God will help you in your grieving. E-mail me or call me, if I can ever be of any assistance. I really DO care!

Justin:
I knew you mostly as a big ole teenager who loved music and was a lot of fun to take along with my own son to a concert. Those memories and memories of you as a mature Man are dear to me. I'll always have a spot reserved for you in my memory and my heart. Thanks for your sacrifice. You are the heart and soul of our greatness.
Always......

Dear Family Members of Justin,
My brother, Sgt. Andrew Perkins, was killed with Justin that day. I just want to send my sincere condolences to you and let you know that you are not alone in how you feel. I am a mother of three and cannot imagine what it would be like to lose a child. I am sorry for you. It is a sad thing to continue life without our loved ones. Forever will I be grateful to Justin and the others that died that day. I will never again look at an American flag and not think of my brother and Justin and all of those that have lost their lives that day and throughout the entire war in Iraq. I will never forget. My prayers are with each of you. Sincerely.

I remember Justin as a kid in school who rode the same bus as my daughter. He was 7 years older than she, but sat by her on the bus for a whole year to keep a bully from bothering her. He stood for what was right then, and he stands true to that statement in my heart now. America has been bullied and Justin stands for what is right and good for America. I honor Justin for giving all and standing for what he believed in. I never got the chance to thank Justin for helping my daughter, so I will say thank you to you his parents and family for raising a son who had courage to stand for what is right in this crazy, mixed-up world we live in. May God Bless and Keep you and your family.

Father we entrust our brother Justin to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Justin in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy.

Words are of little value at this point. Your memory serves as your epitaph and your epitaph is written in gold and an inspiration to all.
Peace be with you brother. It was an honor serving with you. Soldiers forever.

We are now comrades... I just lost my son this week in Iraq. I offer a prayer of blessing and peace that God may help make this trial we are going through just a little easier.
As you know, no words can express the grief or the anguish of no longer being able to hold our loved one, but we can remember and we can be proud of the life they lived.
From one devastated parent to another, may God bless you and keep you through the coming years. I know I will get to see my Blake again and I hope you have the same hope for Justin.
God Bless the fallen ones and protect the fighting ones.
