We are friends of Bob's from Boston College and we had such a great time with him. We will always think of him with great affection.

..Coach was the type of person who would literally give you the shirt off his back.
I know. It happened to me.
One time he came into my office to check up on the stock market. He was wearing a sharp, brand new multi-colored Reebok "The Pump" (for the then new brand of sneakers) tee shirt.
I remarked, "Hey Coach, that's a cool tee-shirt!!!" He replied, "You like it? here, take it, it's yours."....and promptly took it off, gave it to me,and sat in my office for a short meeting without his shirt on.
After our short meeting, he then left my office wearing only his basketball shorts, and sneakers
He was a very sincere, caring man. All of us who have come across him have a story to tell about him. He was unique...and, he will be deeply missed by all of us.
Rest in peace, Coach...and, thanks for the shirt!!! I still have it!!!

I had just returned from a weekend in Georgetown, dressed in slinky black with pearls and Farrah hair. Sat at a booth at Good Time Charleys in Kingston (1970 something) This tall cute fellow came up and said "I heard you bought a piano". I laughed (I had) he looked like a sophomore at Princeton. Two nights later he knocked on my door. Daddy almost fainted. He knew who he was. He had flowers and a piano lesson book. I loved him so...always will.
My regrets and fond memories of my husband's morning friend @ Barnes and Noble in Boynton Beach. His promise of $ for A's and B's motivated our 12 year old to earn $80.00 after a difficult transition year of 6th grade. The money was put towards an electric bass guitar and a Fender amp. Our son is now involved in a school jazz band group and completed 3 weeks of band camp as a 7th grader. We are very proud of him and know our friend Whitey is too!
I am sorry to hear the sad news only today. My condolences to all who knew him and especially the family.
My remembrances will always be running from my home over the hill at Mt Pleasant Ave to "the courts" to play ball. Whitey was always there even when no one else was. My goal in life was to beat him. What I learned was do not give Whitey first out, you would never get the ball back. As a star and he was a star, he showed me and everyone at Livingston what true humility is. He always shared his time and his gift of humanness. His moves we tried to emulate off an on the court.
Thanks to everyone who posted here with their remembrances. Thanks to those who thought of this site. You have made my day even though I have tears in my eyes and in my heart.
