
Eric knew everything about everything, not just the factual stuff but the secret of living life to the fullest. He had opinions without being opinionated and he smiled his way into your own limitations so that you always could feel wholly accepted.
He was as curious as he was generous, and when he loaned you a book on a subject you both connected with (such as Eva Hoffman’s memoir “Lost in Translation”) he would say,”Keep it” and even follow up with other books in dialog fashion.
We each got a snippet, tailor-made it seems, of his boundless mind and heart, as was so evident and palpable at his incredible memorial service. Our own thirty seven year friendship was a true gift of sharing a bond which started as a string quartet and just kept on expanding over our various life trajectories. His stopped all too abruptly. But, Boy, did he live with gusto! We may remember him like a dear brother but he really was a citizen of the world.
