I remember Craig from the early 80's when I was at UTC. He was such a gentle man...caring....listening and something of a role model for me as I was coming out. I was going back over the years this evening and did a search on Craig's name...I am sorry that he has passed and grateful for his ministry.

It was one year ago today that Craig died. It has been a difficult year for all of us closest to him but, just this week, and with the anniversary approaching, the inaugural presentation of the Craig Chaplin Memorial Award was made to Jim Loney at the Convocation of McGill's United Theological College. It was a proud occasion for Claude, Mom and me to attend on behalf of the family.

It was with sorrow that I recently learned of Craig’s passing. Craig and I were chums at Queen’s University. We attended “Canadian-American Relations” together back in 1975, and it was Craig’s quick wit and wry comments that made me look forward to those lectures. After class we would discuss the issues and Craig always had something interesting to contribute. When Craig said he planned to become a minister, I knew his parishioners would benefit from his intelligence and perspective. Every now and then I heard news of Craig when I visited with family in the Montreal area. Unfortunately, I lost track of Craig when he left Union United Church in Ste. Anne de Bellevue. Please accept my sincere condolences for the profound loss your family has suffered.

Hard to believe it was six months ago yesterday that we buried Craig in Perth, Ontario. I'm thinking of him tonight as I wear his warm winter coat.
