Dear Chiki cousins & Families,
Even though I know cognitively JoAnn's death is part of life and she's been ill for a long time, I'm still feel sad over her passing. I choose to remember the earlier good times. Perhaps because God so loved JoAnn, she loved others easily? forgiving & so we keep her love going on? She was such an easy-going, loving human being. Remembering yearsss of JoAnn (& Art) hosting us Courtney kids. Always making us welcome. I think she took after Gladys Bradfield the most, a lady, she'd pat everybody on the back then add an apron & whip up something - food & beverage for like 17 people in quick time! Amazing mothering to 5 boys, she grew tougher & funny. I also enjoyed her Christmas cards & letters. How she loved joining in and joyfully singing around the piano at Helen & Gilbert Courtney's house during holiday gatherings. JoAnn was smartly devoted to her family, faith, learning & community, no matter what. She raised her boys to become kind men & extended families with care. I grew up hearing stories from my dad Harve & aunt Isabel and JoAnn as classmates. I chuckle recalling them cheering out the Chauncey Dover HS fight song well into their elder fragile years :) Sending hugs to Chiki clan for YOUR care to JoAnn and also appreciation to the folk who soothed her transition. RIP~?
