"Unk", I always thought of you as the "model" husband and father. You and Aunt Dorothy were the cutest couple and had such a good relationship. I have so many wonderful memories of our family get-togethers. I'll miss talking to you, but I'll remember you always. Love you.

My Unc, Mr. Cool - January 9, 2014
Posted: January 9, 2014 | Last Revised: January 9, 2014

At my impressionable pre and early teen years; "Unc" (1st cousin) was the most positive Black male image I had. He was so cool because he had a wife, "Aunt Dorothy", that actually wanted to drive a stick shift car! How cool is that? Then I would hear Herb Kent's music (Our music) coming from his house! But later found out that the only reason Herb Kent was on was because they were waiting for "Their music", DJ'd by Sid McCoy! My introduction to Jazz, which I consider to be a life changing experience because Jazz is what adults listened to. Then,of all things; a Chicagoan up and moves to California! Who wrote that? My Unc, that's who! Evidence of how that impressed me, I now live in Las Vegas, Nevada. So possibly without him ever being aware of it, Unc was the most positive influence of my entire life! And I always thought that I would have time to thank him. Now I know he knows; and I hope that he is proud that he was the person that I tried so hard to emulate. R. I. P.

To the entire Adkins family..Don't weep as those who have no hope, this earth is not our home we have been told that we are simply sojourners passing thru. While your hearts may be heavy now the sun will shine on you again and the joy that appears to be elusive will come in the morning. TO THE GOD OF HEAVEN BE ALL HONOR, GLORY AND PRAISE IN THE NAME OF JESUS.AMEN.

To the family of Mr. John Adkins,

I offer my deepest sympathies to the Adkins family at the loss of their patriarch Mr. John Irvin Adkins, Sr.
Mr. Adkins was an exemplar of intelligence and compassionate strength. His love of sports was infectious and his smile was radiant. And although he never got me out on the golf course, I fondly remember his many sports stories and analogies which, more often than not, contained pearls of wisdom and grace just as he lived.

I will miss you much Mr. A

Love,

Diane, losing a parent leaves an emptiness in your heart. But I pray that the wonderful memories you have will help fill that void. May the Lord send you and your family peace and comfort. Hugs!
