Dear Sue, David and Families,
It was really heartfelt sadness when I learned of the loss of your Mother as she was one of my oldest and dearest friends. We kept in touch through all these many years. We never missed sending Christmas cards which caught us up on all the news of your families--I will really miss that!!! She was a true lady and we had so much fun together--cheerleading in high school, even rooming together when we both worked in Rocester, Mn.You can be very proud of what your Mother accomplished in life--she will be sorely missed by all of us--
Love to all of you--
Barbara (Stephenson) Havens
David, Sue, and families,
I am so sorry for the loss of your mom and grandma, and for the delay in expressing my sympathy... My dad moved to Kalona to be closer to us last year and we share the Observer -- he gets it first and then passes it on... He didn't call to tell me of Virginia's death so I didn't know until I got the paper this week and saw her obituary... I would have liked to have come to express my sympathy in person, but it was too late... It sounds like Virginia had cancer -- this must have been so difficult for you all to try to be there for her and share last memories together from so far away... I hope you all got to say "goodbye" either by her side or over the phone or via skype... Your mom/grandma was a devoted Catholic and community volunteer who cared for others and will be missed by many. I hope she passed peacefully and that she is once again whole and healthy in heaven with Gene and Jim. God be with you all, especially David and Sue, as you not only resume lives without your mom, but sift through the artifacts from your childhoods and bid farewell to your DeWitt home. Love, Becky (Wieck) Curtis
Virginia was a sweet and gracious lady, making her a wonderful neighbor to have, my sympathies to her family.
