Alfred "Dale" Layfield 1924 - 2012

Alfred "Dale" Layfield

April 17, 2012
I knew Dale from when he used to run the department from his house. He was always ready to respond anytime day or night. He pretty much took care of that little town all by himself and never complained and seldom asked for help. He was always glad to see you coming, even if just for a chat or cup of coffee, as was his wife Polly. Dale, you were a first rate officer and a good friend.

Dale and Polly were like a second set of parents to me. We were neighbors for awhile and it was a pleasure to share our family times together playing UNO, sharing food and just checking in. The passing of both Dale and Polly saddens my heart. I wish I would have known sooner about Dale's passing as I would have loved to attend the services and paid my respects. Polly's vacation is over as Dale is now home. :-) They both had a great sense of humor and there will always be a spot in my heart for them. I miss them both!

I wanted to be there to tell you, how much of an honor it's been and is, to have known you in this life. I was counting on sharing some of that with your family. Unavoidable problems kept me from being there to see you for the last time and for that I am sorry. I would very much like to see where Mr. Layfield has been laid to rest and would be so grateful if anyone could E-Mail me to inform me how to find him. My heart is just broken over not knowing, so any help would be appreciated !

It came as no surprise that Dale could not survive long without his beloved Polly. They will always be remembered as great neighbors and friends. These old Uniontown stories bring back lots of good memories! My parents enjoyed many fun times at Polly and Dale's playing "Rummy-O" and laughing - and he and my mom would howl at the moon back and forth across their back yards! A great Police Chief with a heart of gold, especially for those in need of a good role model. God Bless!

Chief Dale Layfield has been a dear friend for many years and a MARINE, it was my honor to honor him at the Uniontown Vetearns memorial and we have been to his residence many times, My wife and I placed the Flag pole in his yard for him. Dale contracted me many times to help him. My wife and I will miss both Polly and Dale. Our deepest condolance to the family. Robert S. Harris Uniontown, OH Once a MARINE always a Marine
