I worked with Arthur for many years - he was a very kind & gentle man as well as a gentleman - we had good times working with the children - as you know he was the dean & disciplinarian & all the children who needed paddling (back then) came through me - they would say - oh please Mrs. McCarthy tell Mr. Spencer to only give me a couple smacks!! - of course I would tell him but he did what he had to do - he worked hard & I enjoyed working with him all those years!! - He will be sorely missed but at 87 I think he had a very good life -

Arthur was a very good friend going back for many years. He was a member of our wedding party in June 1947. Our friendship started in his early days at the University of Florida but was fairly short because I was in an earlier class. None the less, he was honorable, dependable, and the kind of person that is an excellent citizen and asset to his community. He served as a teacher during a difficult transition and contributed greatly.
When I think of Arthur, I think of dependable and honor. I am sure that his soul is rest.

My heart is saddened at your loss. Mr. Spencer was my teacher at Westwood and we became friends. He had me out to his farm to ride horses several times. I was pleased to get reacquainted with him this past summer at North Florida Rehab Center while visiting my mother. He was a true gentleman and a fine educator. He made a wonderful impact on so many. His faith was strong and I hope yours helps you through this difficult time.
