It was a pleasure knowing Mr. Blockston during the years he lived at Charlestown Retirement Community. To watch him as he still traveled all over the world visiting family members & friends. To watch him as he would light up when talking about his life on the sea and about the SS John Brown Liberty Ship he volunteered his time on. He will be missed by the residents & staff at Charlestown.

Fred was a big Orioles fan. About 10 years ago, I took him and my dad to a game. We had a great time talking baseball. And no, I didn't let Fred drive.

From my earliest days I can recall Fred jesting about my 'evil eye' stare across the room; on through today where he had no qualms when asked to sit and chat about his days at sea. Even from the small handful of visits I had with Fred during his lifetime, he was able to leave a lasting impression. He truly was a good man.
