Charles W. Tillett III

Dr. Charles was always great company and a terrific conversationalist. He always showed great interest in me and a terrific memory of what was going on with me. Of course one of our favorite topics was Jr.
He was a gracious winner at golf. When playing a fairly difficult course (the Ocean Course in Kiawah Island) his 150 yard shots took me to the cleaners. A life lesson was learned. And the subtile encouragement that golf should be played and enjoyed through out life.

I imagine anyone who knew Dr. Charles was struck, as I always was, by his simple, yet profound grace: unchanging kindness to all, that peaceful warmth, his laugh and smile -- always a comfort to those around him. That rare generosity of spirit is a grand example and one of the things we will all remember about the good Dr. Charles.

I worked with Drs Charles and Grace Tillett from 1972 until 1980. Dr Charles is by far the best ophthalmologist I have ever known and I cherish having worked with him.

In July of 2010 I had the pleasure of spending a couple
of days with Mr. Tillett, he was then 90. I asked him if
he had any advice for living a good long life. His reply
was simply: "Keep moving."

My son, Gus, then 6, was with us on this visit. A few
days later I overheard Gus say to some of his friends:
"On vacation I met a guy who was 90! and he was cool!"

It seems Mr. Tillett made an impression on both of us.
