Dr. Hsia was very outgoing, always smiling, a beautiful person. I will always remember the brief moments he touched my life.
I have the privilege of knowing C.T. Hsia for over thirty years, as a pupil of his late brother C. A. Hsia, who spoke of him highly, a close neighbor, and as a student of literature admiring his originality and impressed by his brilliant prose. His eminence as a scholar in literature, both English and Chinese, needs no more tribute from me. What I like to say here is to pay my last respect to a truly unique individual, guileless to a degree of bluntness, his jests, sometimes charming, sometimes embarrassing to the listeners, but always had a ring of truth in it, like the jests of a Shakespearean jester, his sincere, engaging and almost childlike smile. We shall miss you sorely, Professor Hsia!
We will sorely miss the beautiful smile and joyful interchanges with our longtime neighbor.
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
