To the family of Clair Black,
The passing of your loved one touched me deeply. I was in Mr. Black's English Class my freshman year at White Pine High School. The subject was speech, while I was not afraid of public speaking I lacked refinement. He saw potential and worked with me in writing a delivering speeches. At the end of the unit he invited me to participate in the high school debate team. This was his last year at White Pine, but I got to see him many times the next few years at the high school debate meets. He would always talk to me and give encouragement. In High School everyone wants to find a group to belong to. The debate team was where I found acceptance and friends. I thank Mr. Black for seeing a talent and helping me grow. I still use the skills I learned in professional presentations and teaching boy scouts.
Mr. Black was a teacher who made a difference in my life.
