Dear Greenway Family,
For several years I rented a room from Mr. Greenway in Atlanta about 20 years ago in his little house in Peachtree Hills. I have fond memories of his grandfatherly advice when I was young and just getting started. He didn't charge much rent and was strict with his rules but it taught me about character and holding strong to your beliefs and values.
So sorry I didn't seek him out after he moved back to Athens permanently. He was a rare person and affected more lives than you can know. My heart-felt condolences.
I first met Davis Greenway back in 1987 when I went to work for Asgrow Seed Company. I was fresh out of Clemson University and Dave was sent to train me for a few weeks. He had his work cut out for him. As we traveled all over the Southeast, I learned a lot from Dave and we became good friends. He was a tremendous influence on my life then and continued to be one throughout the span of our friendship. Dave was the kind of man that had a positive impact on everyone that he met. During our time working together I was always amazed at how many people knew and respected him all over the Southeast. As many have said before me, he was a true southern gentleman that loved God, family, friends, the State of Georgia, and of course his beloved alma mater The University of Georgia. They don't make guys like him anymore.
He was like a member of the McKenzie family and we will miss him greatly and always remember him fondly. We offer our condolences to the Greenway family.
Rest in peace my friend.
