Uncle Ed made a big impression on a 16 year old in 1971. He lived life larger than we brooding teenagers could imagine. He was that way when I was 30 and 50. I also want to remember him on behalf of my father, Ralph J. Atkins Jr, who always a great story to tell about his great California cousin, Ed.

My uncle Ed was a crazy dude,I say that lovingly, these are words I've heard him use. He was fun, I remember driving around Lake Tahoe to visit him in Truckee at his resturant when I was a kid and eating Buckwheat panacakes.
I wish I had a photo to share from when Uncle Ed came down to visit when Scott and I lived in Vallejo and he was doing some of his crazy cooking for us. It was delishous and he was so happy in the kitchen, I just remember the big grin on his face as he showed us what he had made.
I know you are up there Uncle Ed waiting on the rest of us. Love you.

I loved Ed from the moment I met him. He was my brother-in-law, and embraced me as a sister. He was so warm and loving, had such a wonderful sense of humor, and had such high integrity. I am thankful that Ellen was returned to his life for his last years; she is also so gently loving and compassionate. What a blessing the two have been to each other.

My dear friend Ed was one of those people my late father would describe as "the salt of the earth". Unfortunately, Ed's generation is slowly vanishing and their honor, trust, and integrity in our society is noticeably disappearing. As a young boy my grandfather would advise me, "you are worth nothing without your word and today you cannot trust no man until you believe he is trust worthy". Whether you agreed with Ed or not, "he said it like it was" with no hesitation. From the first day I met him to the last, I found in Ed these qualities and his endless love for life.

Carla and I loved Edward. We will miss him and never forget the wonderful times we enjoyed with Ellen and Ed. His smile would fill every room he entered with joy and happiness. We pray that the Lord will comfort Ellen during this time and give her strength to go forward into the future with Ed's memory remembering this prayer:

PSALM 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures,
He leadeth me besides the still waters

He restoreth my soul.
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, For thou art with me,
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me
in the presence of mine enemies.
Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life and
I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Amen

God bless you Ellen, We love you.

I'll never forget the time uncle Ed came to my door and said take me to the hospital!! I just crushed my fingers in the drive line of the motor home! It was gross and he made me go through at least one red light. Good times good times!!
