I went through Army basic training with Frank at the Infantry Replacement Training Center at Camp Roberts (near Paso Robles), spring and summer of 1944. Both of us spent a month or so at Camp Howze, Texas before he was
assigned to the 106th Infantry Division in Indiana and I to the 8th Armored Division in Louisiana. Both units arrived in Europe about the same time. Our roles could easily have been reversed. "Luck of the
draw," he called it. I did not see him again until sometime in 1955 when we
bumped into each at the Courthouse; he was a lawyer and I was a Fresno Bee
reporter. Frank had a steller reputation as a judge

Judge Frank Creede, Jr. was one of the giants of our legal community. He was a dedicated, hard working jurist with a strong commitment to the law and justice. Upon his retirement from serving as a full-time judge, he received the Fresno County Bar Association's highest honor, the Bernie E. Witkin Lifetime Achievement Award. I am glad that the Fresno County Law Library was renamed for Judge Creede in that year, too. It was my honor to have known and appeared before him. May he rest in peace.

I would like to express my sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of the Honorable Judge Creede. I was first introduced to His Honor by my Father, David T. Hinojosa, at an Army reunion banquet many years ago. He and my father both served honorably in the same Army infantry division during World War II, the 75th Division. I found him to be an enthusiastic, caring, and positive-thinking man. Several times in the years following that introduction I had great need for his advice on personal matters. He was always happy to listen and advise me-no matter if I called him at noon or woke him up at t:hree a.m.--he proved his friendship to me by helping me with good advice without making me feel uncomfortable in any way. I pray that God comforts you, his family, during this time of change. It can feel so terribly permanent. I dont believe it will be, though. In fact, I trust and believe that God will not allow it to be so. Sincerely,:Ricardo Hinojosa
