Fred Smith was my math teacher in the seventh grade at Austin Elementary. He was one of my favorite teachers and mentors. He helped me develop a love for basketball which I continued playing in leagues until I was 44. I grew up without a father and wished I would have had a dad like Mr. Smith. He could also be tough too, which is what some of us needed.

He made a major impact on a lot of kids. May the Lord bless you and your family.

Fred Smith was my math teacher at Austin School in 1962. He had a great effect on me . I became a teacher and taught at Austin School. As a teacher you will never know the effect you have on your students. I will miss him.

I first knew Fred in 1961. I was a beginning coach and Fred was officiating high school basketball games. When the season was on line, coaches wanted Fred to officiate because he called the game with great creditability. In later years, I became friends with Fred and respected him as a man of high integrity. John Guice
