We knew Herb through my husband's sister who married Herb's cousin and it was a pure pleasure to have known him and we now send our love and sympathy to Herb's family and we will still keep in touch. Herb lived a good and full life that some people couldn't have lived in three lifetimes and he left his mark on so many lives of the people who will remember the good things he did for his mankind.
Our sympathies to everyone that knew him. He was an exceptional man, and we cherish our memories of him and the remarkable example he was of a life well lived. We were fortunate to have known him, and to have seen him last summer at the Peace Corps reunion. He'll be missed.
I have many fond memories of Herb. I traveled the Yukon and Teslin rivers with him where he taught me many camping and canoeing tricks. Herb was impart (an inspiration) the reason I chose to further my education at an age when many would have thought not to do so. He was always kind, humble, and helpful to those he encountered; setting a fine example to follow for those her knew him.
Herb was a rock for our Peace Corps team, and we all loved seeing him just last summer. He always had a kind word and a sense of humor to keep us going. We will miss him greatly, and it was truly an honor to know him.
