Jack Hough

Dr. Jack Hough--thank you for teaching my dad, thank you for being instrumental in moving my family to Oklahoma from San Diego, thank you for giving your life in service during WWII and to helping people hear, some for the first time. Thank you for following Jesus and for the legacy you have left in OKC, HEI, and all over the world. You will be sorely missed here. Now you are truly knowing and getting to see face to face the One who fashioned the ear. We love you.

Jack Hough, whose friendship I have been privileged to enjoy for around 50 years, has been an absolute source of inspiration to me.In our numerous talks together in Oklahoma,Scotland and elsewhere, Jack confessed to me that during the horrific battle in the Pacific while in war service, he promised God that if he came through alive, he would devote his life to Him. But how many of those in danger have made similar promises and failed to keep them?
But Jack remained true to his promise and became a wonderful disciple with God at the centre of his life. Following his return to civilian life, in his early days as a young otologist he was presented at a medical conference with a prestigious award for his work on the ear: courageously he decided that he must acknowledge publicly God's help and the part that He played in his life. From then on we all knew where Jack stood in his relation to God and his fellow men.

Not only was Jack a great Christian but his skill as an ear surgeon was second to none. I have travelled round the world watching famous ear surgeons and there have been none more skillful than Jack Hough. Many of my own techniques have been derived from what I learned in Oklahoma but I never came near to equalling Jack's wonderful surgical skill.
Jack's clinic was unique as the staff were true Chistians who cared for the patients with prayerful devotion giving them confidence and a sense of security.
My thoughts go to his lifelong Christian companion Jodie and to all the family

Dear Hough family,
It's doubtful you remember me as an intern at Presb Hosp in OKC back in 68-69. One day many of you took me up to Eagle Lake, and we hiked down those seven beautiful miles together, Punchbowls and all! Dr. Jack was a kindly mentor during my year in OK, and he let me watch as he performed a couple or more ear procedures at Presb.

I'm winding up 50+ yrs in medicine, having served over half that time as medical consultant for the Navs International here in Colo Springs. You and Jack helped me get my start. Thanks and praise God !!

I first met Dr. Hough in 1961 when I was diagnosed with a hearing loss and saw him periodically throughout my life. He always told me that one day I would be able to get a cochlear implant and that by the time I needed one, it would help me hear much better. In 2001, when I was scheduling my first cochlear implant, he was working on an implantable hearing aid and another surgeon did my implant. I now have two implants, and the level of hearing I experience is truly a miracle. I have always been touched by the level of caring he provided, by his support of the Hearing Loss Association and even by the Christian literature in his waiting room. He was certainly someone to look to as an example of "let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven". My heart goes out to his family.

Dr. Hough was a very special man and am so sorry the world and especially his family has to suffer his loss. I was fortunate to have his hands perform surgery on me and give me a precious quality of life I would not have otherwise. My dear husband was also fortunate to receive hearing from surgery Dr. Hough performed, also. We were always grateful Thank you for sharing his talent and expertise with us..Sincerely, Mrs. James Dycus
