Colonel James B. Archer (Ret. USAF)

A Brother Knight and Sir Knight, I enjoyed conversations with Jim re his latest military affiliation or camping trip. He always asked if I had available any "Holy Smokes" (fire starters made from church candles - a Knights fund raiser) prior to his camping trips. Going to miss you, SK, but you have finally gone to join Shirley. Our prayers are with you both.

I met the Colonel getting an IV treatment. After our first conversation, I always looked forward to seeing him again and asked for him each time I returned. Colonel Archer displayed Christ in how he lived. Although I am a younger woman of color, he had no hesitation to assist and greet me as a new patient to the center. His warmth, kindness and wisdom were evident as he spoke of his beloved wife, raising children, loving his grandchildren and traveling the world. So sweet, so humble, such a light to the world. I am blessed to have met him, and I thank the Lord for the wisdom he shared with me. I will miss him very much, but I know he's in heaven with his wife and our Jesus.

For the many years that we were privileged to be friends of Jim and Shirley Archer, our lives were enriched. Their goodness and genuine concern for humanity has forever left a place in our hearts. One of the ways that their legacy of goodness will be carried on is by the efforts of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary through the Shirley Archer Caring Heart Fund - special projects are undertaken each year in the name of this project. This year, we will honor the memory of our dear departed friend, Col. James Archer. Miss you Colonel.

I just want to express my appreciation for having known Jim. He always had a positive attitude toward living and was truly a great guy. May you find comfort in knowing that God is now looking after Jim and he is home with the Lord.
