Dear Mrs. Brennan and family,

I met Jim through the NSF Drinking Water Addities Joint Committee where I also serve. He was a constant source of stimulation to my thinking, and often a brake on some of my wilder ideas. Jim was always trying to focus us on the facts and the practicality of our endeavors. For any idea I had, I could always obtain a frank, informed and realistic assessment from him. This gave me confidence to do more than I might otherwise have attempted. I valued his presence in the committee and task group meetings, but also at dinner discussions on all topics afterwards when we were in Ann Arbor. He was the whole person, and I shall miss him greatly. My thoughts go out to you.

Dear Patti, Brian, Chris and Jay,
All of us here at the Alpharetta Innovation Center that had the distinct pleasure of knowing Jim were very saddened to hear of his passing. Many of us go back to the Olin R&D days in New Haven, when we were all just embarking on our careers. As a mere technician in those days, I learned early on that Dr. J. was one of the most talented, supportive, and giving scientist that Olin or anybody else had to offer (and after 35 years in the business, I can say that I've met only a few more people that would fall into that category). Our fondest memories of Jim, naturally, would have to be on (or around) the golf course. Jim had a very deliberate style of play in those early days that drove many of the impatient young pups crazy (ok, I was one of them). But once the Very Big Easy finally finished his round, there was absolutely no one in the club house that could even come close in his ability to tell those entertaining stories. I smile even now just thinking about him. May your memories of Jim also provide you with comfort during this sad time.

Dear Patti, Brian, Chris and Jay,
I am sorry for your loss.
I've known Jim for the length of our careers as we started with Olin at around the same time. We shared many a laugh and enjoyed time together on the golf course.
I will remember Jim for his intelligence, quick wit and the laughter he would bring to any gathering.
May fond memories of Jim provide you with comfort.

I will miss jim very much. He treated me the best of anyone I ever worked for. I told him not long ago that he wasn't just a coworker but I considered him a friend and family also. I know I hadn't worked with or known him as long as a lot of people but he left a real mark on my life.It just won't be the same here without him asking me "are we having fun yet?"
