I just learned of this and cannot express how sad I am for everyone that knew The Col. I served with him as a corporal at 533 and still reference his leadership to the day. He was a great man and leader. Semper Fi Sir !!!

Mary Louise and to the family, I was shocked today to hear the news from another old Hawk that Outlaw had passed. He was ten feet tall in my eyes as my first CO and as time went on grew to 533 feet tall. He defined the phrase Officer and Gentleman and it was the latter I respected the most about him. A true class act. God Bless y'all and Semper Fi, Mark and Lucia Hall

Mary Louise. I am so sorry to hear that Jim has passed away. He and I were ECP's and attended OCS together. We used to sing and play guitars back when we were PFCs and later as 2nd Lts. Jim invited me over to your home once, long ago, I can't even remember where it was. I have tried to find him and had long hoped that we could write some songs together and go to Nashville and make it big! He had a great singing voice. I only found out about Jim's passing because my son is a Marine Osprey pilot, and he and your son Jay were working together in Pensacola . . I noticed his comment on FaceBook. I asked my son if he might be related to Jim Whitlow, and that's when I was relayed the news. I am so sorry that I didn't get in touch sooner. We all have suffered a tremendous loss.
Semper Fi,
Ed Benes

I'd like to extend my most heartfelt condolences to the Whitlow family. Colonel Whitlow has been one of my heroes since his sister Debby and I played together as little girls.

DEAR MARY LOUISE AND FAMILY. I HAVE BEEN OUT OF TOWN AND JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT JIMMY. I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH JIMMY FROM 1ST GRADE ON UNTIL GRADUATION. HE WAS THE SAME GUY ALL THOSE YEARS AGO AS DESCRIBED IN HIS OBIT. I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. YOU AND I MET MANY YEARS AGO AT NANCY AND ELDREDS HOME WHEN KATY WAS A BABY. I DO KNOW JIMMY WAS CRAZY ABOUT YOU AND THE KIDS. EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE NOT HAD A LOT OF CONTACT THROUGH THE YEARS, THERE WAS ALWAYS A SPECIAL BOND IN MY HEART. GOD BLESS YOU AND GIVE YOU STRENGTH. "THE WILL OF GOD WILL NOT TAKE YOU WHERE THE GRACE OF GOD WILL NOT PROTECT YOU." CLASSMATE FOREVER, BRENDA QUINN KOOP.
