Jerry Turman

This is a hearty second to my brother Buddy's words below. I so much hope that Mr. Turman gets to see Blacky (our cat he made famous) in heaven. Mr. Turman was a truly great neighbor and friend. I can almost visualize my mother and father playing bridge in Heaven every weekend with Jerry and Norma Turman...or what's a heaven for?

Jerry Turman was a truly good man. More than that, he was a wonderful friend to our family and, most especially, to my father, Dr. Harry C. Powell. Unfortunately, we just learned the news that Jerry had passed exactly one month after my father's own death. Our family and the Turmans were close neighbors long ago on West Terrace Drive in Austin. In the years that followed, Jerry and my father continued to have a great friendship. After my father moved into an assisted living facility and had to rely on a walker, Jerry visited him often and took him out on "field trips." We cannot say enough about Mr. Turman's loyalty and character. The world is a lesser place for his passing. Gayland and Scott and Laurie, please know how very much your father meant to the Powell clan (Buddy, John, and Judy) and how blessed we are to have known him. May God give you peace and strength as you move through this time of grief. Rest assured that you will remain in our prayers.

I know that this guestbook will be taken down soon, but I wanted to thank anyone still looking at this so much for your kind words about our father. He was unique, kind, funny, and intelligent. He will always be missed and loved by us. Our dad was our role model in so many areas. He will be the ideal that we hold up for all dads to aspire to be like.I love and miss you, Daddy. I hope we make you proud now and forever.

I knew Jerry Turman from the 1960's through the 1990's at Southwestern Bell Telephone as he was my District Manager for many years. He was a role model for being dedicated to service to the public, the company, and his employees. I am honored to have known him and his wife Norma who also worked at Southwestern Bell occasionally. He will be missed.
