Pine now has the company of Hubert Sumlin and Willie Big Eyes Smith. He played a whole lotta gigs with Willie, including while they were in Muddy Water's Band. And as elders, they traveled and were inseparable. Very close friends, Willie and Pine. And of course both were close to Hubert. And so many loved Pine.
Pine was given an artistic award from Pres.Clinton. I was lucky to travel with Pine to D.C. for the event and a performance of many artists. He was a show stealer!
Pine lived a great part of his life in Chicago. I met him when he was briefly in LaPorte. "Double Bubble" took good care of Pine, she has a heart of gold.
We always had to stop for 'little' Mc-D burgers, whether going to a gig at Rosa's in Chicago, or before the awards in D.C.! Yes lookin for a McD's near the capitol building..amongst some pretty fancy restaurants.. He loved my old 70 Coupe- I woulda paid HIM for the honor, to take him to gigs. However he insisted on payin for the gas..
A sweet, loving, good natured man, never saw him get mad. And he did stop playing at midnite, when the Sabbath was the next day. His Momma taught him not to play on Sunday and he never would. Rosa tried to push him, he was undeniable in his faith.
He often told me, 'I love the ladies, my mother was one, you know.' He was fun to just sit with, so many know that. He liked to go fishin when he had the time. No matter if they were not bitin.
We all love you, we all still do Pine.
