A wonderful man that I met through my employment at Graybar Electric in Winston-Salem ('69-'06). I enjoyed many rounds of golf and numerous lunches, dinners and drinks with 'Cush'. An impressive and most enjoyable man - that I will never forget. Thanks for the memories...

This note is from Madeleine Hahn and Ed Clark who knew and enjoyed so much, the friendship of Boo and John at Inlet Point where we shared interest in a lovely ocean ft condo for years. We will miss their energy and love for our beach. McLean, Va.

My condolences to the Cushman family. My formative years were while I was employed at The John Cushman Agency. It was a great place to work and learn about life and business, which I truly did. Cush's leadership was highly regarded and appreciated.
Cush was admired and widely respected by all.
Thanks for the many memories Cush. Also,Don,Jerry, and Carolyn.

To the Cushman family my sincerest sympathies and regards. So sorry for your loss. I was a Phil's Deli acquaintance of John and Boo. I will miss them both. May their memories be eternal.

A letter to Johnny

Dearest Johnny,

I cannot say that we became friends in the years that you and Mom were married, I wish we had. Your history is so fascinating, yet I never took the time to ask you about your life. What was important to me was always evident. There was never any mystery about the kind of man you are, one look at Mom or the two of you together told that story. Borrowing a line from our family history – You are one of the White Hat Cowboys, which meant hero. May I say you wear your wisdom wrapped in dignity and your humility covered in grace. I have described you consistently through the years as a true Southern Gentleman. That you are!

My mother truly lived two lifetimes. But it was not until Mom married you, Johnny, that she blossomed into the person she was meant to be. She adored you; completely adored you and her life with you! You made her so very happy! I am certainly not alone among her six children in our appreciation and admiration of you. Our heartfelt gratitude for your Love and care of our Mom. Thank you for being her Hero!

God Bless You Always!
