To the Doherty family....
My mother Irene Cash Verna and her husband Joe Verna of Natick send their belated condolences. My mother and John's wife were great friends and Ann was my Godmother. I remember growing up in Natick and always hearing about John and coaching football. They were a great couple. May you treasure the memories you have. God Bless you all.

Dear Christine, Johnny, Kevin and Gary…I am so sorry to hear the news about your Dad. I know that these past several years he was ill, and perhaps not quite the man he once was, but for me, John Doherty will always be the man in that iconic newspaper photo of him, standing on the football field, larger than life, his players at his feet, the sun at his back, like some sort of Greek god among mere mortals. He would often pop in unexpectedly to our little house in Milford and suddenly, an ordinary day became special. He brought so much to our family: friendship, fun, laughter, love and even an occasional song or two. We are so blessed to have known him. With love and deepest sympathy, Patty

To the Doherty Family
Your dad, affectionatly known to our football team as Duffy in 1966 at Shelton High School, Shelton, CT. My name is Richard Osso and was captain of his 1967 team. He called me Oss. Duffy was more to me than a football coach. He was my teacher of life, compassion, sportsmanship, work ethic and many more qualities. I have my highschool yearbook with his photo as a young English Teacher and coach. I loved him dearly. I can be reached in the Shelton, CT area so please contact me. My oldest son also attended Curry Collage. Deeply sorry for your loss.
