Johnnie Mae O'Bryant Neely (O'Bryant)

I will always remember Mrs. Neely. She lived caddy-corner to me in Alpine while I was growing up. Once she told my mother a story of a gold pen that a ranch hand had given her as a young girl because she liked to write. Her stepfather (?) or grandfather or other elder in her life at the time told her she could not keep the pen because it was too forward of a gift so she sent it back. My mother was so touched by the story that she gave Mrs. Neely a gold pen for her 82nd birthday. I can remember Mrs. Neely crying as she opened the gift. What a wonderful, loving and caring woman. I will never forget her walking past our house everyday to the post office.

Grandma Neely was an inspiration to all of us. She continually showed God's love to everyone around her as she served others, gave sacrificially, and brought a spark of excitement and energy everywhere she went. Our memories of her will continue forever and be passed on to our children. God bless you, Donna, as you cared for her so faithfully. We have been blessed with an amazing family. Thank you all!

Mrs. Neely taught me in 3rd grade at Burnet Elementary in Midland TX. I never forgot her! I also saw her in Alpine and introduced myself to her. She said she still remembered me! Not sure it that was true but it was very sweet! a wonderful lady.
