Joseph J Shumaker

I grew up down the street from the Shumakers in GG and had some of the best times of my childhood at their house. Jim's house was like a sports complex from football, wiffleball, pickle....you name we played it in the front yard. Jim always treated all the neighborhood kids awesome and I felt like I was at home when at his house. I remember a neighbor down the street always sped up and down the street, that is until Jim set him straight after giving the guy some choice words. That was Jim , always taking care of us. For that I'm always great full. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and for everyone who knew and cared for Jim......

Mr. Shumaker was one of the most charming people I've ever met. I was amazed at the wit he possessed. I worked with his daughter Kathy and she would share some of the things he would say. It was an honor to meet him.

I have alot of really great childhood memories because of my Grandpa.I loved the road trips to northern California him and Grandma took us on.We would sing songs and sometimes get to laughing so hard I wasn't sure we would ever stop.Grandpa loved his grandkids very much and we were very important to him and we knew it. I loved that him and Grandma would let us skip school 1 day a year so they could take us to Disneyland how awesome was that? He was our Guardian at the Del Mar Fair cause my Mom and Dad worked and that was really special cause we had our GRANDPA there and Grandpa was much more fun than our parents!I love you Grandpa! And eventhough you have left this earth to be with Grandma, I will always cherish my memories of you!Thank you for being such a great Grandpa!

When we moved into our home on Easy Way we met Jim and Eve. Our neighborhood was the best --similar to the Wonder Years TV show. JIm was the kindest most generous person. He will be missed but is in our thoughts always. To all of the family, you know we love you guys-you all are such a wonderful part of our lives.

On Sept 6th one of the most loving, giving, caring, compasstionate men I know passed away, my grandpa. He was a war vet, an amazing husband for 57 yrs, he was a supportive dad and a phenomenal grandpa! I am a better person for having him in my life and being responsible for part of my upbringing. I will always love you Grandpa . You will never be forgotten
