Joyce was my mentor and second mom while I worked on 2W at Wesley Long.
She immediately took me under her wing and was a wonderful guiding force in my nursing. We became friends and I will always be grateful for her love and support in my life. Paula Payne (High Point)

I well remember riding w/Ma-maw Owens to pick up Linda at Jamestown H.S., Dick was a 'soda jerk' in the local Jamestown pharmacy and Joyce was in Nursing school. The times at the Pump Station with the entire family...almost like a clan that seemed to me a perfect mix of people who loved each other unconditionally and enjoyed being together often. The family dinners in that house beside Mr. Epton, the many Christmas Days we gathered in that living room w/Grandaddy's pipe smoke in the air.

Almost like it was yesterday.

Joyce was a wonderful aunt, caring daughter, loving sister, loyal wife and doting, involved mom. She had a passionate personality, a typical Owens-like opinion about almost everything and I bet those traits are found in Scott and Donna and their children. Hope so.

I'll never forget her and those great times we shared as a complete family.

I read this poem this morning and thought of your mother. She was very loving, opening her heart to help those that she could. Please know that you each are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We love you all.

Loss of Mother Poem

Now that I am gone,
remember me with smiles and laughter.
And if you need to cry,
cry with your brother or sister
who walks in grief beside you.
And when you need me,
put your arms around anyone
and give to them what you need to give to me.
There are so many who need so much.
I want to leave you something --
something much better than words or sounds.
Look for me in the people I've known
or helped in some special way.
Let me live in your heart
as well as in your mind.
You can love me most
by letting your love reach out to our loved ones,
by embracing them and living in their love.
Love does not die, people do.
So, when all that's left of me is love,
give me away as best you can.
