What wonderful pictures. Leon was obviously much loved. I remember the Bomb Wing reunion and how much he enjoyed seeing his friends and how much they enjoyed him. My deepest sympathy to your family.
Sincerely,
Cathy Debbrecht, 73rd Bomb Wing Association

Dear Maxine, Bill and the entire Ballard family, I was very saddened to hear that Leon had passed away. I have so many found memories of Leon and water skiing with Betty. I can't count how many times that Leon, or Bill, helped us out with a cranky boat engine, or just about anything else. The two of them could fix anything, and graciously did so on many occassions. I remember taking the Highbow out in the Gulf to do some shrimping, and Leon came along. The Gulf was pretty rough that day and when the engine failed, I think all 3 of us thought we were going to sink, but Leon, with a cold beer in his hand, never lost his composure or smile. Ah, so many great memories.

I trust and pray that all of the Ballard family and friends are finding peace and joy in Christ as you reflect on the life of a truly amazing man!

His grace to you,

My dad, Leo P. Ziemianski, flew with Leon Ballard in the Pacific Theater and through the years spoke about him and Maxine with great fondness. Leon's passing has created an unfillable loss that we all share with his family. We extend our deepest condolences to the family.

It broke my heart to hear about Leon. He was such a good man, loving husband, caring father, and respected veteran. He also loved the San Barnard but in my heart I know he will be in Heaven with Carl and Betty looking down checking on it regularly. May Gods love and your memories sustain you now and in the future.
