Myrtle Helen (Simpson) Aase

July 01, 2013
I am shocked and saddened to read of Myrt's passing this evening. I was trying to locate her when I found this announcement. George (and the rest of the family), please accept my sympathies in the loss of this wonderful woman. She will be missed by so many people.

I have so many wonderful memories of her. She taught me so many things during the few short years I worked with her in my state job. She was not only my boss, but my mentor. I learned so much and I also learned how to laugh a lot while avoiding her cigarette smoke. She used to laugh and say that only the smoke followed the “beautiful people” (sure –right). And then other times when we would be going to meetings or going out to lunch and she was driving, she would take last minute chances to cross the road (and I was in the passenger seat), she would always say: “don't worry – it's your side” while laughing. We also survived some tough times when meetings got “hairy”, but we showed those regulatory boards who was the “boss” (well… Myrt did and they respected her – even if she was tiny in stature).

We had lost touch after I left my position and moved on to another job (which I don't think she ever forgave me…). But I continued to think of her often. I can truly say I have not worked with any other individual that I have respected, loved and admired more in my 40+ years since graduating from college. I am heartbroken that I did not get to say goodbye to her.

I had the good fortune to work with Myrt for 8 years on the Cosmetology Board. During that time and years following she proved to be one of the most generous and loving friends I have ever known. Her family meant more to her than anything in the world and I learned quite a bit about priorities from her. I have missed seeing her over the past years and am saddened at her passing. You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this time of grief. Know she was a wonderful person who loved her boys, all 3 of you, more than anything else.
