Norval Michael Akiwenzie

April 1, 2013
One year has fast approached, I still find it difficult to think you are gone but do not regret all that you have taught me. There will be so many good things to come this year and wish you could have been there to experience them. I know you are finally at rest and it is what keeps me strong. I know you will forever watch over our family. Giizaagin(love you) Papa

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Micheal Akiwenzie years ago through an introduction by his son and my friend Bryan. Bryan and I played hockey together at a men's native tournament in Rankin (Soo, Canada) and Micheal was our honourary team manager. His love for the game and those involved in his son's life were obvious and powerful to me. I felt this as his words "Make Him Pay" with a clenched fist, echoed throughout our dressing room.~ I will miss Mr. Akiwenzie through wiped tears and think of his children Darryl, Bonnie, Micheal and Bryan & their families during this thought provoking time. I will also remember and smile thinking about the time I went to the Armories in the Soo where this decorated anishnabe war veteran showed me the totem pole he made with his own hands. A man of many talents and surprises, he made me laugh and now I cry. ~ Your Native Friend, TTHigo

Dear Daryl & Brian & Family my sincerest condolences, thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

I heard the other day that Norval Akiwenzie passed away. It sounded like somebody from the Cape passed away. I looked further and seen it was yours Dad that passed away. I guess there are not many Aboriginal men his age left here and there.
